Istanbul Food Tours is a static editorial website. We publish guides and rankings; we do not run accounts, process payments, or sell anything directly. This page explains, in plain English, what that means for your data.

What we collect

If you accept the cookie banner, we load Google Analytics 4 to measure traffic. If you decline, or have not yet made a choice, no analytics script runs and no analytics cookies are set.

We do not:

  • Run advertising or retargeting scripts.
  • Offer account signups, newsletters, or contact forms.
  • Sell or share analytics data with third parties beyond Google.

We also write small values to your browser's localStorage to remember your chosen theme (light or dark) and your cookie-banner choice. localStorage stays on your device and is never sent to our server.

Google Analytics

When you accept analytics, we load Google Analytics 4 (gtag.js) from googletagmanager.com. It sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) on your browser and sends data to Google about:

  • Pages you visit on this site and the order you visit them in.
  • Approximate location (country or city level), derived from your IP address.
  • Device and browser type, screen size, language.
  • Referring site or search term that brought you here.

We enable IP anonymization, which means Google truncates your IP address before storing it. We use this data only in aggregate, to understand which pages are useful and which are not. We do not try to identify individual visitors.

You can opt out at any time by clicking Decline in the cookie banner (if you have not chosen yet) or by clearing your browser's site data for istanbulfoodtours.com and declining when the banner reappears. You can also install Google's official opt-out browser add-on to block Analytics across every site. Google's use of data is governed by Google's privacy policy.

Server logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like most hosting providers, Cloudflare keeps standard server logs (IP address, requested URL, user agent, timestamp) for operational and security reasons. These logs are held by Cloudflare under their own privacy policy. We do not combine these logs with any other data and we do not build visitor profiles from them.

Fonts

We load web fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser fetches those fonts, Google receives your IP address and user agent as part of the request. This is covered by Google's privacy policy. We do not pass any personal information to Google ourselves.

Outbound links

When you click a tour-booking link on this site, you leave Istanbul Food Tours and arrive at a third-party site such as Viator, GetYourGuide, or the tour operator directly. Some of those links include an affiliate identifier so the partner can credit us with a referral if you book. The partner, not us, handles any booking data you submit. Read their privacy policies before you book.

Your rights under GDPR and UK GDPR

If you are in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with similar rules, you have the right to know what data is held about you, to correct it, to have it erased, and to object to its processing. The lawful basis we rely on for analytics is your consent (given by clicking Accept on the cookie banner); you can withdraw it at any time as described above. For any request related to analytics records Google holds about you, contact Google directly using the channels in their privacy policy. For anything else, reach out using the contact details below.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change (adding analytics, adding a newsletter, changing hosts) we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, surface a notice on the site.
